A Delhi court on Thursday sent Congress leader P Chidambaram to CBI custody till 26 August. The court was hearing a CBI plea seeking five-day custodial interrogation of the former finance minister who was arrested in the INX Media corruption case.

The court, according to Live Law, has granted Chidambaram’s family and lawyers permission to meet him for half an hour every day during the custody.

Special Judge Ajay Kumar Kuhar heard the arguments of the CBI and Chidambaram’s counsel for over one-and-a half-hour before deciding.

Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, representing CBI in the case, said during his arguments that Chidambaram was not cooperating in the investigation. He added that the Congress leader’s replies have been evasive, according to PTI.

Chidambaram, according to ANI, told Kuhar, “Please look at the questions and answers, there are no questions which I have not answered, please read the transcript.

“They asked, if I have bank account abroad, I said no, they asked if my son has an account abroad I said yes.”

He was arrested on Wednesday from his Jor Bagh residence.
