Air India has launched an inquiry into allegations of sexual harassment against a commander of the airline based on the complaint of a captain.

Reports say the incident took place on 5 May in Hyderabad during dinner at a restaurant in the city where the two went for dinner on the insistence of the commander.

The Times of India quoted the woman as saying in her complaint, “I agreed as I had done a few flights with him and he seemed decent. We went to (a) restaurant at around 8pm and this is where my ordeal started.”

The man allegedly started asking the woman personal questions about her marriage.

“He started with telling me how depressed and unhappy he was in his married life. He also asked me how I coped with my husband living away and whether I didn’t need to have sex every day... At some point, I told him I did not want to talk about all this and called a cab,” ANI reported the woman as saying in her complaint.

The woman said that this was “without any encouragement for me”.

The behaviour of commander reportedly got worse as they waited for their cab and he continued to send her text messages and even threatened to come to her room.

The Times of India reported that Air India has launched a probe into the incident and said that appropriate actions will be taken.
