A man and his roommate allegedly raped a 25-year-old air hostess working with a private airline, in suburban Andheri, police said on Wednesday.

The incident took place Tuesday night at a flat in Goni Nagar where Swapnil Badoniya, the woman’s friend, lived as a paying guest, a police official said.

Badoniya, who also works for the same airline, and the woman went out for dinner Tuesday evening and later had drinks at his flat, she told the police. Indian Express reports he knew the complainant and worked in the security department of the same company.

The woman said when she woke up next morning, she realised that when she was drunk, Badoniya and his friend had forced themselves on her during the night.

She lodged a complaint of gang rape at the MIDC police station.

“We registered a case of gang rape under IPC section 376 D and arrested the accused person (Badoniya),” said Nitin Alaknure, senior police inspector, MIDC police station.

Badoniya told the police he tried to check-in into a hotel with the woman after she had had too much to drink but they were not let in, Indian Express reported. He then suggested that she come back with him to his apartment, which he shared with two other men.

In her statement to police, the woman said, “He then took her to his apartment near in Andheri (East), where two of his roommates and a woman friend were also present. Taking advantage of her situation, they assaulted her and raped her one after the other,” Indian Express quoted.

The woman’s father took her to a hospital after she told him of the incident. A case was registered by the MIDC police after the hospital authorities informed them, the Express report said.

Badoniya confessed to the crime but denied the involvement of his roommates, a police officer told PTI.

He was produced before a court which sent him in police custody till June 6. Further probe is on.
