Actor Prakash Raj said on Tuesday he will be contesting the 2019 Lok Sabha elections as an independent candidate.
Raj made the announcement on Twitter at exactly 12am, saying “Ab ki baar Janatha ki SARKAR.”
The actor said he will reveal details of the constituency he will contest from soon.
Raj has been a vocal critic of the BJP government and participated in several protests after the murder of journalist Gauri Lankesh.
At a press meet in Mangaluru last March, he had said, “At this point of time I am against a political party, which I feel is dangerous to this country. I am totally disturbed by the communal politics of the BJP and the way it has disturbed the fabric of the country. I am against this.”
At the time, the actor had also said he would not join politics.
