The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh’s student wing Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) forced a professor to kneel and apologize for allegedly posting an anti-India post on social media in Viajaypara district of Karnataka on Saturday.
The incident took place in Vachana Pitamaha Dr.P G Halakatti College of Engineering and Technology run by Bijapur Lingayat Development Education Society of Karnataka Home Minister and senior Congress leader M.B.Patil.
The Indian Express has reported that the professor was made to apologize for an alleged Facebook Post in which he criticized the BJP government at the center for creating a war-like situation and praised Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan for his stand during the escalating tensions between the neighbors.
According to a report in The Hindu newspaper, the ABVP members took exception to this post and staged a demonstration in front of the college. The ABVP alleged that the professor had committed treachery by appreciating and endorsing Imran Khan on Facebook.
As the ABVP protestors were particular that the lecturer come out and apologies, the college management reportedly “convinced” him to do so. When the visibly scared professor came out, the protestors made him kneel and apologize for his “mistake” with folded hands. They even made him say that he would not indulge in any such act again. Although the incident took place in presence of a police constable and college authorities, no case has been filed so far. The video showing the lecturer, identified as Sandeep Wathar, being forced to apologies has gone viral, The Hindu has reported.
But the police refused to look into this incident as the professor has not lodged a complaint with them.
However, the ABVP members are insisting that the police should lodge a sou moto complaint against the professor.
Home minister Patil has not yet reacted to this incident.
