Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) candidate for East Delhi Atishi lost in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. She was pitted against BJP’s Gautam Gambhir and Congress’ Arvinder Singh Lovely.

After Gambhir won from the constituency, Atishi congratulated him and said she will “always be available for help and collaboration for the betterment of East Delhi”.

Atishi had claimed that BJP is her main opponent. She was locked in an acrimonious fight with Gambhir in the East Delhi constituency.

Atishi was the advisor to Delhi education minister Manish Sisodia till April 2018 when her appointment was cancelled by an order from the Centre.

She has been credited with improving government schools in Delhi and initiating education reforms in the capital.

AAP had released a separate manifesto for East Delhi and the focus was on women safety. The manifesto said the first major step will be to increase the number of PCR vans in East Delhi, so that 24-hour police surveillance acts as a deterrent for anti-social elements.

In education sector, the manifesto promised to get the constituency its own university campus, so that students do not have to travel across Delhi in search of good colleges.

Actress Swara Bhasker and Gujarat MLA Jignesh Mevani had lent their support to Atishi.
