From a tranquil oceanfront escape in Sri Lanka to a buzzy, ultra-hip hotel on South Beach, these hotels are our favorite new beach hotels and resorts.

1. Cape Weligama, Galle, Sri Lanka
The team behind Ceylon Tea Trails has opened its latest Relais & Chateaux resort, Cape Weligama, on a 12-acre headland above Sri Lanka's palm-lined southern coast. Between the on-site dive center and the infinity pool overlooking the Indian Ocean, it offers plenty of outdoor diversions.

You'll also want to spend time in the resort's 40 terracotta-roofed, butler-serviced villas, designed by Thai architect Lek Bunnag within stonewalled wattas, or gardens.

3. Malliouhana (An Auberge Resort), Anguilla
Anguilla is a very Anglo island; and Malliouhana was, for decades, one of its most staunchly traditional hotels. So it was a surprise when quintessentially Californian Auberge Resorts took it over.
