Born in Mumbai, Zainab is a transgender person and is one of the petitioners in the National Legal Services Authority v. Union of India case on transgender rights. As a Policy Analyst, Zainab provides technical support on human rights and collaborates with regional and national civil society partners and institutions on policy inputs to the ‘Being LGBTI in Asia’ initiative. Her areas of interest are LGBTI rights and health and social development issues. Her work profile includes management of social mobilization initiatives benefiting marginalized populations, including indigenous people, persons living with HIV, landless women, LGBTI people and people impacted by gender-based violence.
