Smita leads the Human Resource function for Global Commercial in India since November 2011. At AstraZeneca, Smita’s focus has been on the cultural transformation of the organization. This included ensuring that the right Talent are in the right roles, succession plans, driving belief in the organization strategy, development, building a science oriented workforce, gender diversity and building a culture of feedback to drive accountability for results. More recently, she has taken on additional responsibilities for Training, Corporate Communications and Safety, Health and Environment. Smita has over 20 years of professional experience. Prior to AstraZeneca she was with multinationals like IBM, Cisco, Oracle and Siemens. Smita has experience in starting-up companies & setting up distributed work teams, mergers and acquisitions, organization structuring, executive coaching, mentoring, leadership development, culture building, HR systems and processes etc. Prior to joining AstraZeneca, Smita was with Oracle for 9 years where she held many HR leadership roles for various businesses including sales, consulting, development, marketing etc and has worked with leaderships and businesses from various geographies, the Americas, EMEA and APAC. In her last role she was the Senior Director – HR heading the India Development Centre, which was the largest Development Centre for Oracle globally, with over 8000 employees across multiple products and businesses. Smita holds a Bachelor of Science (Life Sciences & Biochemistry) from St Xavier’s College, Mumbai and a Masters in Personnel Management & Industrial Relations from Tata institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai.
