Despite the fact that both countries were carved out of the British empire, India has ended up as a democracy with civilians firmly in control, whereas Pakistan has witnessed a number of direct military rules and has always suffered from a severe civil-military imbalance. Moreover, India has managed its ethnic and communal diversity much better than Pakistan. So what are the reasons?
I believe that realizing our common Indian identity is important, as it will lead to erosion of bitterness. Yes, modern Pakistan and India are a reality, but then so is our great common heritage. Yes, it is important for us to be loyal to our political states but at the same time not overlook the joint heritage.
