Dr Nerges Mistry

Trustee and Director, Foundation for Medical Research

Dr Mistry is the current Trustee and Joint Director of FMR, Mumbai. She is a PhD in Applied Biology from University of Mumbai. Her areas of research include basic and public health aspects of TB and Leprosy with a focus on multi-drug resistant TB; community epidemiology of water borne diseases and operation research into community based healthcare systems for rural areas. She has been bestowed with several prestigious awards including Wellcome Trust Travel Grant and Heiser Post-Doctoral Fellowship and has 51 publications to her credit. She is also a member of several national and international committees.

Yet, ironically, we are credited with designing, implementing and launching one of the world's largest TB control programmes. A strange contradiction that belies our inability, lack of innovative thinking, and insufficient attention and resources to TB.
