Former Union minister MJ Akar, who has been accused of sexual misconduct by several women, has been suspended from the Editors' Guild of India.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Guild said that after seeking the views of the Executive Committee, the office-bearers agreed that Akbar should be suspended from the Guild until the court case he has filed is concluded.

Akbar has filed a defamation suit against journalist Priya Ramani, one of the first women to publicly accuse him of sexual harassment. Several other women spoke up after that, and Akbar was finally forced to resign from his post as minister of state for external affairs.

The office-bearers also decided that Tarun Tejpal should be suspended from the Guild.

Here is the entire statement:

The Guild, according to ANI, had released an updated list of members in November this year and it included the names of both Akbar and Tejpal.
