The Congress is leading in all 12 seats in Maoist insurgency-hit Bastar region of Chhattisgarh according to early trends.

The party had won eight out of 12 seats in the 2013 assembly election from the Tribal dominated region.

Such is the undercurrent in favour of Congress that BJP ministers Kedar Kashyap and Mahesh Gagda are trailing from the Narayanpur and Bijapur assembly seats of Bastar, respectively.

The BJP was banking on Bastar this time but Congress president Rahul Gandhi's extensive campaign in this region appears to have tilted the scales in favour of the Congress.

"Rahul Gandhi addressed three rallies in Bastar. The coordination between all units of the party was better in Bastar which helped consolidate votes in our favour," Santosh Kolkunda, the Youth Congress in charge of Chhattisgarh told HuffPost India.

According to the Election Commission's website, the Congress is leading in 59 out of 81 seats for which trends have been declared, while the BJP is ahead in just 16 seats. Chief minister Raman Singh is ahead in the Rajnandgaon constituency by a few hundred votes at the moment.
