The Parliament's month-long winter session will begin on December 11, the same day votes will be counted for the Assembly elections in five states.
The session, which ends on 8 January, will be the last full-fledged Parliament session for the Narendra Modi-led BJP government at the Centre before the Lok Sabha elections in 2019.
The results of the Assembly elections, in which both the ruling BJP and the Congress have high stakes, is bound to cast a shadow on parliamentary proceedings.
Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Telangana and Mizoram are the five states for which results will be known on Tuesday.
In the 20 working days of the Parliament session, eight important bills will be tabled in the Rajya Sabha and 15 in the Lok Sabha. The government will also push for the passage of the triple talaq bill pending in the Rajya Sabha. It had promulgated an ordinance to make the practice of instant triple talaq a penal offence.
The government also wants to pass the Indian Medical Council amendment ordinance and the companies amendment ordinance as bills.
The Winter Session of Parliament usually starts in November. This would be the second year in a row when it would begin in December. The session was delayed this year due to the Assembly elections in five states.
Meanwhile, the government held an all-party meeting on Monday ahead of the session to seek cooperation from the political parties for the smooth functioning of the two Houses. Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan will meet the leaders of political parties on Tuesday to ensure smooth functioning of proceedings in the Lower House.
