After the renaming of Allahabad, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said during a speech in Telangana that if BJP comes to power, it will rename Hyderabad to Bhagyanagar.

Adityanath, addressing a rally in the old city of Hyderabad, said that the only party that could break alleged terror links in the city was BJP.

"If you are keen to rename Hyderabad as Bhagyanagar, then vote for BJP," moneycontrol.com quoted Adityanath as saying.

He also took a dig at AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi, saying if BJP came to power, he would have to flee from the state.

ANI tweeted Adityanath as saying:

Adityanath's comments come after BJP MLA Raja Singh had said that he would ensure the name of the city changes if BJP was voted to power.

"Earlier, Hyderabad was Bhagyanagar and in 1590 Quli Qutub Shah came to Hyderabad, he changed Bhagyanagar to Hyderabad. At that time many Hindus were attacked, many temples destroyed. We are planning to rename Hyderabad," Singh had told ANI.
