The Mumbai Police on Wednesday registered a First Information Report (FIR) against actor Alok Nath on a complaint filed by filmmaker Vinta Nanda. The Oshiwara Police registered the FIR under section 376 of IPC (rape), Mumbai Police Additional Commissioner of Police Manoj Sharma confirmed to ANI.

Nanda had filed a complaint on 17 October against the actor and accused him of raping her 19 years ago, according to PTI. Nath had filed a defamation suit against the filmmaker, demanding a written apology and compensation of one rupee.

In a Facebook post, Nanda had described her harrowing experience. Nanda had recalled that she hadn't just been raped, but she was taken to her own house and brutalised. "I couldn't get up for my bed."

While she did not name Nath then, she said in her post "Irony is that the man, the predator in question here is the actor par excellence who is known as the most #Sanskaari (Cultured) person in the film and television industry."

She later confirmed to IANS, "It is Alok Nath. I thought saying sanskaari would do the needful."
