Alyque Padamsee, Theatre And Ad Personality, Dies At 90

Popular film and theatre personality Alyque Padamsee passed away in Mumbai today at the age of 90. He breathed his last at 5:30 am on Saturday, according to a report in The Hindu.

Padamsee played the role of Muhammad Ali Jinnah in the 1982 Richard Attenborough-directed historical drama Gandhi. He was also known for theatre productions like Jesus Christ Superstar and Evita.

He was conferred with the Padma Shri in 2000 by the President of India. He has received the Sangeet Natak Akademi Tagore Ratna in the year 2012.

The Advertising Club of Bombay had named him the Advertising Man of the Century. He was also the head of an advertising firm called Lintas and according to NDTV, he was credited for building it into one of the top advertising agencies in the country
