Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday announced that Uttar Pradesh's Faizabad district will be renamed Ayodhya, according to reports. The chief minister made the announcement during a Diwali speech.

"Ayodhya is a symbol of our pride. Ayodhya's identity is with Lord Ram. From today, Faizabad district's name will be Ayodhya," Zee News quoted Adityanath as saying.

Faizabad district encompasses the twin towns of Faizabad and Ayodhya, according to NDTV. The announcement comes just days after the historic city of Allahabad was renamed as Prayagraj.

Adityanath also announced that Ayodhya will soon get an airport named after Lord Ram, reported ANI.
