The feud in the Central Bureau of Investigation saw multiple twists on Wednesday morning with all the officers probing CBI No. 2 Rakesh Asthana being transferred and Director Alok Verma approaching the Supreme Court challenging the decision to send him on leave.
ANI reported that CBI DIG Manish Kumar Sinha, DIG Tarun Gauba, DIG Jasbir Singh, DIG Anish Prasad, DIG KR Chaurasia, HoB Ram Gopal and SP Satish Dagar had been transferred on Wednesday.
This came moments after Verma moved Supreme Court against the government's decision to send him on leave.
The apex court accepted Verma's petition.
CBI Director Verma and his deputy Asthana were sent on leave in the early hours of Wednesday by the government.
Sources have told PTI that Verma and Asthana have been "divested of all powers" amid an ongoing spat between them. The people said that this was the first such instance in the history of the agency.
Earlier on Wednesday, reports suggested that the offices of the two top bosses were being raided.
Earlier this month, the CBI had registered an FIR against Asthana, his Deputy Superintendent of Police Devender Kumar and two alleged middlemen Somesh Prasad and Manoj Prasad on the basis of a statement from Hyderabad-based businessman Sana Sathish Babu that a bribe was paid to the middlemen to get relief from repeated questioning by Asthana's Special Investigation Unit.
In the meantime, Asthana alleged his boss Verma had tried to falsely accuse him.
Asthana had written to the Cabinet Secretary and Central Vigilance Commission over 10 cases of alleged corruption and irregularities against Verma, levelling serious corruption charges in some of them.
