After a flight attendant accused singer Abhijeet Bhattacharya of sexually harassing her 20 years ago, the singer denied the allegations, saying he was not even born at that time. Not just that, Bhattarcharya went on to make a crass remark, saying only "fat and ugly" women were making allegations in the #MeToo movement.

The woman said on Tuesday that Bhattacharya had assaulted her at a pub in Kolkata 20 years ago.

The Indian Express quoted him as saying, "I don't know against whom should I take action. Why should I give attention to that person? You are giving it importance, not me. Most of the people who are coming out right now are dirty, ugly people. Koi mota hai koi patla hai. No one deserves (the attention). Just to grab some attention they are coming out. Most of the fat and ugly girls are blaming and I wasn't born at that time."

According to the report, Bhattacharya also implied that the woman who accused him must have done it to benefit by mentioning his name, because "his name sells".

The woman said that in 1998, at the Hotel Hindustan International in Kolkata, Bhattacharya twisted her arm and nibbled and kissed her ears.

She narrated her ordeal in a tweet, where she alleged that Bhattacharya told her during the incident, "Bitch, what do you think of yourself, wait till I teach you a lesson". This was allegedly after she had refused to dance with him.

The woman alleged that the hotel had banned the singer for a month.

Bhattacharya is among many from Bollywood who have been accused of predatory behaviour by women.

Actors Alok Nath, Rajat Kapoor and Nana Patekar and filmmakers Vikas Bahl and Vivek Agnihotri are some of the names that have emerged in the #MeToo campaign that has taken the film industry and newsrooms by storm in the last few days.
