Musician Balabhaskar, a popular singer and violinist, died in a Trivandrum hospital in the early hours of Tuesday. Balabhaskar and his wife had been seriously injured in a car accident last week in which their two-year-old daughter Tejaswini Bala died.

The violinist, 40, and his family were returning from a visit to a temple in Thrissur when the car hit a tree on the outskirts of Trivandrum. Initial reports said the driver, their friend Arjun, may have dozed off and lost control of the car.

Manorama Online reported that the singer died of a cardiac arrest at 12.56 am.

Balabhaskar first shot to fame when he composed music for Malayalam film Mangalya Pallakku at the age of 17. His performances and fusion music had won him many fans in Kerala and outside.

Reports say Balabhaskar's wife Lakshmi, who had sustained multiple fractures, has still not regained consciousness.
