Maharashtra BJP MLA Ram Kadam landed himself in a spot after a video was circulated of him telling boys that he would kidnap girls for them if their proposal for marriage was rejected. The video, recorded during a Dahi Handi festival in Ghatkopar, was posted on Twitter by Nationalist Congress Party MLA Jitendra Awhad.
However, Kadam has denied making any such statement and claimed he was quoted out of context.
The Indian Express quoted Kadam as saying, "You can call me.. if you call me saying I have proposed a girl and need your help.. I will definitely help you.. I will call your parents and ask them...If they say they like that girl then... I will kidnap that girl and give it you.. now take my number."
Dr.Jitendra Awhad (@Awhadspeaks) September 4, 2018

He later told ANI that if there was something objectionable in his speech, the several journalists present at the event would have pointed it out.
He also said this was a ploy by the opposition to tarnish his image.
I said that every youth, whether it's a boy or a girl, should marry after taking their parents into confidence. After saying this, I took a long pause & someone from audience said something. I repeated that on mike & after that also, I spoke some more: Ram Kadam on his statement pic.twitter.com/BP7rMRFeFl— ANI (@ANI) September 4, 2018
If there was something objectionable, there were several journalists & they would've paid attention. They didn't because they heard entire speech & not just a small video. Opposition leaders are making a 40-second clip viral on Twitter. That's creating a wrong impression: R Kadam pic.twitter.com/4VdpJlCEaY— ANI (@ANI) September 4, 2018
