The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) is keen that Malayalam superstar Mohanlal contests the Lok Sabha elections next year from Thiruvananthapuram as a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate, Deccan Herald reported on Tuesday.

RSS, said the report, is working to build a "social activist" profile for the actor in the run-up to the polls.

The 58-year-old actor, one of Kerala's most popular public figures, had met Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday to brief him about his VishwaSanthi Foundation's initiatives.

The meeting, sources told Deccan Herald, was part of an exercise to build a political and social profile for the actor.

The report added that BJP leaders in Kerala were not part of the RSS's efforts to rope in Mohanlal.
