Weeks after Sacred Games opened to near-unanimous critical acclaim, American streaming giant Netflix has made a bunch of announcements from its Indian catalogue.
The company is set to debut dark comedy, Brij Mohan Amar Rahe, a film directed by Nikhil Bhat.
It starts streaming on August 3.
Actor Arjun Mathur plays the titular role in Brij Mohan Amar Rahe, a hosiery shop owner in Delhi who gets assumes another identity to escape a life riddled with debt and forgery. However, all hell breaks loose when his new identity is busted.
The film has been produced by Yoodlee Films, which earlier produced Ajji, a film that premiered at the Busan International Film Festival.
In a statement, Swati Shetty, Director, International Originals and Acquisitions Netflix said, "We are very proud to have films of the caliber of Brij Mohan Amar Rahe on the service, where millions of film-lovers around the world can discover these strong, captivating stories. We are also thrilled to get our first collaboration with Saregama off the ground, marking another milestone in our commitment towards forging solid relationships with Indian content creators."
Besides Brij Mohan, Netflix has also acquired the streaming rights for Little Things Season 2.
The popular series features internet sensation Mithila Palkar and Dhruv Sehgal, who's also the writer of the show which is about a couple navigating career and relationship in Mumbai. A release date for the second season is yet to be announced.
While these two are the current announcements, some of the other originals already in the pipelines include Selection Day, based on Aravind Adiga's novel and a Delhi-set original series, called Again (written by Quantico's Marisha Mukerjee). An adaptation of The Bard of Blood, to be produced by Shah Rukh Khan, is also expected to release in 2019 while the Radhika Apte-starrer Ghoul, acquired by Phantom, streams August 24.
