A law student accused her friend's father of rape and lodged a complaint in Gurugram against him on Saturday, July 7. Her childhood friend accompanied the survivor and her mother to the police station to file the complaint.

According to a report on Hindustan Times, the incident took place in The Belaire, an upscale apartment in Gurgaon's DLF 5 area. The survivor, a law student, told the police that she went to visit her friend's house for a sleepover. The accused's daughter, also her childhood friend, was visiting home from abroad where she studies. The girls have known each from third standard in school and the survivor knew the accused for over a decade as well, reported The Times of India.

The 18-year-old law student told the police that her friend's father took them to Cyber Hub for dinner and they all consumed alcohol there. The girl told the police that the man was 'sloshed'. A report in Hindustan Times says that around 4 am, the man came and called the girl out of the room she was sharing with his daughter. He indicated that he wanted to talk. Once, the girl went out, the man dragged her into his room and raped her. He also threatened her to not tell anyone about the incident. The man's wife was not at home that day.

The Times of India report quotes from the complaint, "He woke me up, held my hands and dragged me to his room. He then locked the room from inside and raped me."

The survivor then returned to her room and told her friend what happened. Her friend took the survivor back to her home — in another apartment nearby — and then accompanied the survivor and her mother to the police station to lodge a complaint.

The police told Hindustan Times that the accused has 'confessed' to the crime. However, a report in Times of India states that the man claimed to be innocent and said that the girl had voluntarily come to his room at night.

Police registered a case under sections 376 (rape), 506 (criminal intimidation) and 328 (causing hurt by means of poison) of the Indian Penal Code at the women's police station in Gurugram's Sector 51.
