Raazi Trailer: Meghna Gulzar's Espionage Drama Starring Alia Bhatt, Vicky Kaushal Looks Intriguing

Alia Bhatt continues to delight.

The trailer of Meghna Gulzar's next, Raazi, dropped online earlier today.

The film, a Dharma-Junglee co-production starring Alia Bhatt and Vickey Kaushal (Raman Raghav, Masaan), is an adaptation of Harinder S Sikka's Calling Sehmat, a book inspired by the almost-unbelievable real-life story of a Kashmiri woman who married a Pakistani army officer to dish out intel back to Indian forces.

Raazi's trailer is atmospheric, eerie, and unsettlingly tense. Meghna, who last directed the terrific Talvar, has a directorial style that relies on intrigue and the dramatic premise of Raazi gives her enough meat to play around with.

The trailer opens with a sweeping shot of the INS Viraat and a throbbing background score which establishes the film's war-movie tonality. We are introduced to Alia Bhatt's character, Sehmat, a seemingly unassuming young woman who's about to be thrown into a perilous journey, something she doesn't appear to be prepared for but looks determined to do.

What if she actually falls in love? What if she defects? What if she's caught? How she navigates the ostensibly terrifying road ahead form's the crux of the film, which features a great ensemble comprising Rajit Kapoor, Shishir Sharma, Jaideep Ahlawat, and Bhatt's real-life mother, actress Soni Razdan.

Film releases on May 11. Here's the trailer:
