While stars from Bollywood families often admit that their lineage helps them, but only with their first film, a recent casting announcement quells that idea.
Putting several speculations to rest, Karan Johar just announced that Saif Ali Khan and Amrita Singh's 25-year-old daughter, Sara Ali Khan, will be seen opposite current heartthrob Ranveer Singh in Rohit Shetty's Simmba.
Simmba, where Singh is supposedly playing a flamboyant cop called Sangram Bhalerao, is a hotly anticipated project, given the success rate of Shetty's past directorial ventures. This will also be the first time he'll be collaborating with Karan Johar.
Ironically, both Shetty and Johar came together to judge a reality show to screen fresh actors, who do not have a connection with the film industry. The show called India's Next Superstars positioned itself as an inclusive platform where actors from across the country would be judged solely on merit, and not family pedigree.
While it remains to be seen if the show contestants get a film with either Shetty or Johar, for now, Sara Ali Khan is the leading lady opposite Ranveer Singh in a Dharma film directed by one of the most successful directors of recent times. The cocktail of this stunning combination wasn't lost on Dharma's Twitter handle.
Interestingly, Sara had signed on Abhishek Kapoor's Kedarnath opposite Sushant Singh Rajput as her debut film but as the Ekta Kapoor-Prerna Arora-backed project slipped into a legal battle, it appears that Simmba would release first (December 28, 2018), thus marking Sara's entry into filmdom.
