Four Cricketers Arrested As Pakistan's National Anthem Was Played Before A Cricket Match

The are supposed to have been let off as well.

Four cricketers have been arrested in Kashmir have been arrested for allegedly participating in a pre-match ceremony where Pakistan's national anthem was played. This came to the notice of the authorities after a video of the incident went viral.

Hindustan Times reported that during a match in Bandipora, where the video was recorded, the two teams in the match were seen standing in line with their heads bowed as Pakistan's national anthem played in the background.

The match was supposed to be between two teams -- MCC, Gondipora and Dardpora Cricket Club.

NDTV reports that the boys were let off after speaking to their parents while the police are still on the lookout for the organisers of the match.

The match had taken place on January 3 in the Arin village of the Bandipora district.

SSP Bandipora, Sheikh Zulfikar Azad told The Economic Times "We have registered the case and investigation is going on."

The ET report said that the police have gotten in touch with the village elders and asked them to ensure such an incident does not happen again.

A similar incident had taken place in April 2017. In this case Kashmiri cricketers were detained for wearing the Pakistan Cricket team jersey and singing along with the national anthem.
