The body of Sharath N, the 19-year-old son of Niranjan Kumar, an income tax officer from Bengaluru, was discovered near a lake in Kengeri, on the outskirts on Bengaluru on Friday morning. The body was found when the police caught a chain snatcher, allegedly involved in the crime, according to a Times of India report. Sharath was reportedly kidnapped 10 days ago, on 12 September.

According to reports, six persons, including a close relative of the teenager, have been arrested in relation to the murder. The police has, so far, not released any statement about the motivation behind the kidnapping and how he was murdered.

Soon after Sharath's kidnapping, a WhatsApp video message was sent to his parents, in which the boy was seen asking his parents to pay a ransom of ₹50 lakh to his abductors, according to the TOI report. In the video, boy even said that the kidnapper looked like a terrorist and might harm his sister.

According to The News Minute, a police source claimed that the body was first thrown into the lake with stones tied around it so that it would drown. But it floated to the surface in a day or two, following which the kidnappers dug a pit near the lake and buried the body in it.
