A woman in Hyderabad was forced to spend a night on the road, in the rain, cradling her 10-year-old son's dead body. All because her landlord, Jagdish Gupta, did not want the 'inauspicious' dead body in the house after his daughter's recent wedding, reported The News Minute.

Eswaramma, a mother of two, has been renting a room within Gupta's house for the last four years. When her older son, 10-year-old Suresh, died of dengue at the government-run Niloufer Hospital on Wednesday night, she tried to bring the body back home, but Gupta refused to let them enter the house. His relatives, allegedly, didn't want to risk being infected, reported NDTV. They did not relent even though it rained all night, forcing Eswaramma and her younger son to spend the night on the road, huddled together next to Suresh's body.

Relief for the aggrieved mother finally came in the form of neighbours and early morning walkers who, on learning what had transpired, arranged for a casket and tarpaulin covers and raised money for Eswaramma to perform Suresh's final rites.

Condemning Gupta's inhuman behaviour, child rights activist Achoot Rao told ANI that this incident was a severe violation of child rights and that she would definitely be filing a case with the state's Human Rights Commission.

There has been an alarming rise of malaria and dengue cases in Hyderabad this year. Between 1 January and 1 June, 157 cases of malaria were reported in the city, the highest in the last five years, reported the Deccan Chronicle.

Till 9 September this year, Telangana had registered 915 cases of dengue, out of which 192 were from Hyderabad, according to a report in The Indian Express.
