Much excitement.
ANI/ Twitter

Inspired by Narendra Modi's Goods and Services (GST) Tax regime, a family in Gujarat's Surat have named their triplets based on the initials of the much-criticised taxation programme.

According to news agency ANI, the family, who were blessed with three daughters, named them Garavi, Sanchi and Taravi, all after the initials of GST.

"PM Narendra Bhai Modi brought in GST-One Tax-One Nation, we were inspired by it & named our daughters after it," Kanchan Patel, the mother of the little girls, told ANI. Prime Minister Narendra Modi comes from Gujarat, where he was the chief minister for several years.

In July this year, a couple in Chhattisgarh's Koriya named their daughter 'GST' as her birth date was same as the roll-out date of the reform.

Believed to be country's biggest tax reform since Independence, GST was rolled out on 1 July 2017 amidst huge protests from the Opposition and trade unions countrywide.
