The family of 51-year-old Rathnam from Kerala got the shock of their lives when she was found to be alive after reportedly spending an hour in the morgue!

Rathnam was crittically ill and was undergoing treatment for jaundice and liver and kidney-related issues at a medical college hospital in Madurai for the last two months, reported the Deccan Chronicle. Being kept alive with the help of a ventilator, the doctors were convinced there was no hope for survival. With that in mind, her relatives decided to take her home so she could die in peace in her own home.

On Wednesday, 6 September, while being taken home in an ambulance, her relatives noticed that she was not breathing or moving, reported The News Minute. They moved Rathnam to a mortuary, which is where she stayed for about an hour.

When more relatives reached the morgue to take her away for her last rites, they found her alive and breathing!

The police was notified and a checkup confirmed that she was alive. She was rushed to the ICU of St John's Hospital.

Bizarrely, Rathnam had been shiften to the mortuary without any medical conformation of death, the police told The News Minute.

Unfortunately, despite her miraculous recovery, she finally succumbed to her illnesses and died later in the evening.
