It was a day of celebration for Amit Shah today. Not only did he complete three years as the BJP President and was elected to the Rajya Sabha, he was also praised by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Modi said that Amit Shah had brought back the culture of hard work known in the Jan Sangh days. The BJP is the successor to the Bharatiya Jan Sangh, which merged into the Janata Party in 1977. The BJP was formed in 1980.

Addressing the Bharatiya Janata Party's parliamentary party meeting, Modi said Shah had steered it to be the largest democratic political party in the world, reported IANS.

The Prime Minister also had some strict advice for the party lawmakers. In what seemed like a warning, Modi reportedly told the BJP MPs, "Now Amit Shah is here, all your leisure days are over."

He also told the lawmakers that Shah will make sure they are in attendance in both the Houses, reports DNA.

It was the first meeting of the BJP parliamentary party attended by Shah after being elected from Gujarat to the Rajya Sabha.

Last month, Modi had told the the MPs he may have to keep a tab on their attendance if it is not up to the mark.

The issue of MPs' attendance was taken up by Modi after minister of state for parliamentary affairs Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi told him about how the Admiralty (Jurisdiction and Settlement of Maritime Claims) Bill, 2017, could not be passed in the Rajya Sabha last week due to lack of quorum.

Only 23 out of the 56 members of the ruling BJP were present in the House.
