Varnika Kundu Says She Hopes For Justice As BJP Rules Out Subhash Barala's Resignation

Amid the huge uproar over the allegations against Vikas, the son of BJP's Haryana State Subhash Barala, reports suggest that the leader is not going to resign from his post.

Anil Jain, who is the National General Secretary of the BJP and is the state incharge of Haryana and Chhattisgarh, told The Indian Express, "Subhash Barala hasn't resigned and he will not resign. Let law take its own course."

Barala's son Vikas and his friend Ashish are accused of stalking and trying to kidnap Varnika Kundu, the daughter of an IAS officer in Haryana. The woman described her ordeal to News18 saying, "They wanted to scare me into stopping my car, so that they could either get into my car or pull me into their car."

She said she was followed from Sector 7 in Chandigarh to Housing Board Chowk, where ultimately Vikas got off the car and tried to open her car door, which is when the police arrived.

Amid criticism over the incident, Opposition parties have also come down heavily upon the BJP and have demanded Barala's resignation.

"This is extremely clear that BJP is pressurising Chandigarh administration and hatching conspiracy to protect the son of its political leader. May we ask on behalf of people of India if drunken youth, goons chase a girl for seven kilometers, attempt to block her car and forcibly open the door and try to enter the car, is it not the case of abduction and outraging the modest of a woman? " ANI quoted Congress leader Randeep Singh Surjewala as saying.

He also questioned the missing CCTV footage and indicated that it was because of a conspiracy to save Barala. Since Chandigarh is a Union Territory, Chandigarh police comes under the Home Ministry.

And while Opposition parties alleged there was pressure on the police to save Barala, PTI reported Kirron Kher as denying the allegations.

While Kundu has told New18 that the police was of great support to her and her family, she also emphasised on the point that she registered a case "to teach them a lesson."

She said, "I hope justice will prevail, the system is supposed to work for us. The Chandigarh police have done an excellent job so far. So hopefully that is how it will continue."

And while Kundu hopes for justice, people in power are making excuses to wash their hand off the issue.

Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar already made clear a day ago that Barala could not be question or even held responsible since it was his son who was involved.

"The accused will be punished once found guilty. This is my official stand on this matter. This case has nothing to do with Subhash Barala. Such an act is highly condemnable if proved correct," he said.

So far cases have been registered against Vikas and his friend Ashish under Section 354 D of the Indian Penal Code for stalking and Section 185 (Motor Vehicle Act) of the CRPC. No arrests have been made.
