It Seems Indians Are Fond Of Carrying Their Own Beds And Brooms When Traveling Abroad

Flight attendants often complain that Indian flyers are a nightmare. Once, a middle-aged man was so sloshed, that he peed right there on the aisle. Then this one time a passenger from Melbourne to New Delhi created such a ruckus in the plane after getting drunk that he had to be tied to his seat. He allegedly tore the clothes of two attendants.

Now there seems to be another problem-- It's what the Indians carry when they travel abroad.

UK-based Virgin Atlantic conducted a study and released a list of bizarre check-in requests from around the world.

Indians, it seems, have a tough time parting with their beds and brooms. The airline said that passengers from Delhi to London often carry bed-head, folding beds and brooms, reports Times Of India.

"There also seems to be regional patterns, with brooms arriving at check-in regularly in India and loose tyres commonplace in Lagos," Virgin Atlantic said in a statement.

But it's not just Indians who travel with bizarre things.

The list includes a wide variety of animals from goldfish to pet budgie birds. A car bumper was sought to be flown from London's Heathrow, loose car tyres travelling from Shanghai to London, and a large freezer being flown from Las Vegas.

However, Indians are definitely not the best behaved when it comes to flying global.

A probe by the UAE aviation authorities into the crash-landing of an Emirates flight at Dubai in September 2016, in which 80% were Indians, showed that Indians don't follow instructions even when it comes to crisis times. The UAE report said that flyers evacuated the plane with their hand bags despite being told by the crew not to do so.

A Quora thread on why flight attendants dislike flying to and from India so much lists some of the reasons.

"We Indians even on a bloody holiday are in a hurry. Hurry to check in, hurry for security checks, hurry to board the aircraft, hurry to pick our luggage even before the flight touches the ground and hurry to get out of the aircraft even before stairs arrive or sky walk is connected to the aircraft," said a user, who describes himself as a frequent flier. He also points out that Indians love 'free' things and often end up taking too many candies, peanuts and wet tissues for their entire family.

Stealing headphones and blankets, not switching off the phone during take-offs or landings despite warnings, taking selfies and pictures inside the flight when asked not to do so, not making way or getting up from the seat for fellow passengers were also listed as some of the reasons that make Indians terrible travelers.
