How OnePlus 5 Stacks Up Against Other Flagship Phones

Will it graduate from flagship killer to flagship?
Verge

Following umpteen leaks and news stories around it, the much awaited OnePlus 5 smartphone was officially launched last evening. Phonemaker OnePlus has earned the distinction of launching one of the most anticipated phones of the year, so much so that there were hardly any surprises left by the time the phone was unveiled yesterday.

OnePlus5's design has been the topic of much discussion, both before and after the launch, especially its resemblance to the iPhone Plus 7. There are high expectations from the phone's camera as well, given how much OnePlus has focused on the publicity ahead of the launch.

OnePlus smartphones have always had the advantage of a power packed specification sheet, and this time around too it is top of the line. In fact, it has clearly bested flagships such as LG G6. However, the spec sheet is one thing and execution quite another. While OnePlus won many fans with OnePlus 3T, with its raised prices it is now aiming to compete with the big boys.

On paper, the phone looks practically blemish-less. Even the software, which shipped out of the box, is clean, with useful tweaks such as an e-paper-like reading mode.

The OnePlus 5 will definitely sell well and, hopefully, OnePlus will continue to stick to its USP — unique looking phones that are affordable despite having capabilities of top-end phones. It will be worth watching how OnePlus 5 is received in the market in the coming days — as a flagship or a flagship killer.
