Former Hizbul Mujahideen commander Zakir Musa, who has since joined the Al Qaeda, has slammed Indian Muslims for not waging a jihad against cow protection vigilantes.

According to media reports, Musa addressed the recent atrocities against Muslims in the name of "gau raksha" in an audio message on Monday, criticising Indian Muslims for not standing up against oppression.

"They are the most shameless Muslims in the world. They should be ashamed of calling themselves Muslims. Our sisters are getting abused and dishonoured and Indian Muslims keep screaming that 'Islam is peace'," the Times of India quoted Musa as saying in the audio clip.

Referring to the alleged rape of a Muslim woman in Bijnor in Uttar Pradesh, Musa was heard in the clip as saying, "I am ashamed that I could not do anything for you sister. The Muslims of India should be ashamed. Our sisters and daughters are being raped and they are chanting 'Islam is peace'."

He further denounced Indian Muslims as the most "beghairat qaum" (shameless community) for not raising their voice against injustices suffered by the community.

Musa said that Indian Muslims still have a chance to join him and show the cow vigilantes "the muscle of Islam and Muslim community."

"We will take revenge for every atrocity," the commander reportedly said, adding that he will ensure that Shariah is established not only in India but across the world.

Indirectly targeting the Hurriyat leaders in his message, who want to resolve the Kashmir issue under the framework of the UN resolutions, Musa said such leaders were hypocrites seeking to deceive Allah and his messenger and fellow believers.

Musa, who was heading the Hizbul Mujahideen, quit the militant outfit in May this year after the group refused to back his statement that Hurriyat leaders would be beheaded for calling the Kashmir issue "political".
