Sohail Mahmood Set To Replace Abdul Basit As Pakistan's Envoy To India

Mahmood will take over the reigns by the end of this month.

ISLAMABAD -- Pakistan's new envoy to India Sohail Mahmood is set to take over at the end of May, replacing current High Commissioner Abdul Basit whose term ends at the time, official sources said on Monday.

"Sohail Mahmood, who currently serves as Ambassador to Turkey, will replace Basit," a Foreign Office source confirmed.

The source said the Indian High Commission in Islamabad has issued visa to Mahmood.

Basit was appointed as Pakistan's envoy to India in 2014.

Mahmood has also served as the envoy to Thailand earlier.
