A man with disabilities in Tamil Nadu's Thiruvarur was burnt alive by two drunk men after he asked them not to drink in public and leave the area.

A report in Indian Today said that Sheik Alavudeen, who was sleeping outside his house because of the heat, saw the two men drink in front of a laundry shop around midnight.

The two men had first threatened to burn Alavudeen alive, but then left the area.

India Today reports that while Alavudeen did not take the threats seriously, the two men actually returned to the area after buying petrol from a nearby petrol pump and lit him on fire while he was sleeping.

Residents of the area, according to the report, managed to catch the culprits and report them to the police after they were woken up by Alavudeen screams.

Alavudeen succumbed to his burn injuries at the Thiruvarur hospital.
