Parents and authorities in Ludhiana have now passed a diktat on what teachers should be wearing because apparently their clothes can have an effect on the students.

The Hindustan Times reported that the director for public instructions in Ludhiana has written to district education officers and principals saying that government school teachers wear provocative and glittery clothes like 'jeans and top' and that apparently affects the students.

The report suggests that a dress code will now be implemented, and that officials will conduct surprise checks.

Teachers, are of course not happy with this decision.

A government school teacher Anu Verma told the newspaper, "The higher authorities must focus on how to improve education standards in Punjab. Instead, they are busy in issuing such directions that are not required."

But this is not the first instance of a dress code being imposed teachers.

Earlier in February, the department of higher education had issued a circular to government and private colleges to implement a uniform dress code.

The order was however withdrawn three days after the proposal was made to introduce it.

In January, the Madhya Pradesh government had also issued orders asking school teachers to mandatorily wear an apron with a name plate on it while on duty.
