The Specs Showdown: Xiaomi Mi 6 v OnePlus 3T v Xiaomi Mi 5 v Samsung Galaxy S8

The Mi 6 was launched in China earlier this week.

Xiaomi launched its new flagship smartphone Mi 6 in China on Wednesday. The new phone has many notable features, including a striking design. Let's see how Mi 6 stacks up against other flagship smartphones.

Mi 6 has a metal chassis and is covered with 3D glass on all four sides, giving it a more 'premium' feel than Xiaomi Mi 5 or even OnePlus 3T. (Though OnePlus 3T Midnight Black is an acknowledged stunner.) The smaller screen size might work in Mi 6's favour as many users find big phone screens unwieldy. There are rumors though of a bigger sized MI 6 Plus releasing at some point. One of the great things about Mi 6 is that it comes with dual front-facing speakers.

In terms of processor and RAM size, Mi 6 is a giant on the spec sheet. However, the phone's real life performance is yet to be seen, given that there is MIUI 8 'firmware' skin lying on top of Nougat 7.1.1.

Besides design, Xiaomi has changed many other things in Mi 6 compared to its predecessor Mi 5. It has increased the battery size to 3,350 mAh with Qualcomm Quick charge 4.0 enabled. And it has 'courageously' removed the headphone jack as well. OnePlus 3T, on the other hand, has a slightly bigger 3,400 mAh battery and it has kept the headphone jack intact.

Xiaomi has opted for a 12 MP dual camera setup in Mi 6, following the likes of LG and Apple, and thanks to that, it can offer 2x optical zoom. The front camera has been bumped up from 4 MP to 8 MP, and is on par with competitors on paper.

Xiaomi had lost a lot of ground to rivals Oppo and Vivo in China. With a phone priced at RMB 2,499 (approximately ₹23,438), it will try and regain the attention of the Chinese consumer. In India, with Mi 6 it will try and get a piece of territory currently dominated by OnePlus and Moto Z Play.
