In a shocking case of dereliction of duty, a woman police officer is being charged with rape of a minor whose sexual assault case she was investigating.
The Indian Express reported that Additional Sessions Judge Vinod Yadav directed the station house officer in Mongolpuri to register an FIR against a woman sub-inspector on charges of sexual assault of a 10-year-old girl because there were "clear allegations of commission of penetrative sexual assault" to create false evidence to frame the girl's father in the case.
The police officer will be charged under the POCSO Act.
The report suggested that 10-year-old approached the court on Saturday alleging that all this was done to protect the school teacher.
The minor had complained of sexual assault by her teacher in August last year.
While a case was registered against the teacher 35-year-old teacher first, an FIR was later filed against the father of the minor on a complaint filed by the teacher.
The incident took place at the Nigam Pratibha School in outer Delhi's Aman Vihar.
An earlier report in The Indian Expresshad said that the father was beaten by the teacher in front of other teachers of the school when he had complained about the incident last year.
The report had quoted the father as saying they "threatened to file a false rape case against me and frame me on charges of raping my daughter."
