After a shocking video showing a Kashmiri man tied to the front of a jeep, allegedly as a human shield against stone pelters, surfaced, the Jammu & Kashmir police on Sunday registered a case against the Army unit reportedly involved in the incident, according to the reports.

An FIR has been registered under sections 342/149/506 and 367 of the Ranbir Penal Code against the Army's 53 RR unit in Budgam district, the Times Of India reported. The charges include wrongful confinement, unlawful assembly and criminal intimidation among others.

The video sparked widespread condemnation and many in the political factions have criticised the armed forces for breaching human rights norms. The man was later identified as Farooq Ahmad Dar, a resident of Khag Tehsil of Budgam district, who was on his way to his sister's house, after casting his vote in the bypoll, when he was picked up by the army.

The Chief of the Army Staff, General Bipin Rawat, on Sunday met and apprised National Security Adviser, Ajit Doval, of the situation in the Valley, the Hindu reported.
