Even as India summoned Pakistan High Commissioner Abdul Basit and issued a demarche against Pakistan on Monday, terming the death sentence against Kulbhushan Jadhav a 'case of premeditated murder', the issue dominated discussions in Parliament on Tuesday morning with the usually bickering Parliament uniting in demanding justice for Jadhav.

Congress gave an adjournment motion notice in Lok Sabha over the matter.

Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge said that the government would come across as weak if no action was taken against the death sentence against Jadhav.

"Pakistan has sentenced Kulbhushan Jadav on lies and false allegations of spying. Why is the government silent?" NDTV quoted Kharge as saying in the Lok Sabha.

AIMIM leader Asaduddin Owaisi also severely criticised Pakistan over the matter and said the government should safely bring Jadhav back to India. He said in the Lok Sabha:

Union Minister Ananth Kumar assured the Lok Sabha, in reply to the Opposition, that the entire Lok Sabha was united behind Yadav.

Home Minister Rajnath Singh replied on the issue, assuring the Lok Sabha that justice will be done for Jadhav.

He said:

Minister of External Affairs Sushma Swaraj also condemned the death sentence in Rajya Sabha, there was no evidence of wrongdoing.

She also warned Pakistan of the impact this would have on bilateral ties if the country acted on the sentence.

She said it was an "indefensible verdict against an innocent kidnapped Indian."

Swaraj calling Jadhav the 'son of India' said she would go to any extent to save him.

A Pakistan court had said on Monday that former Indian Navy officer Jadhav would be hanged on charges of "espionage" and "sabotage".

India retaliated by summoning Basit and issuing a demarche. The Times Of India quoted the demarche as saying, "The proceedings that have led to the sentence against Shri Jadhav are farcical in the absence of any credible evidence against him. It is significant that our High Commission was not even informed that Shri Jadhav was being brought to trial."

It further said, "If this sentence against an Indian citizen, awarded without observing basic norms of law and justice, is carried out, the Government and people of India will regard it as a case of premeditated murder."
