Samsung India will launch the flagship Samsung Galaxy S8 in the country on 19 April. Details about the smartphone's price are not available yet.

The Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ were launched internationally on 29 March. The S8 is available in the US for a starting price of $720. Both phones will be running Samsung's own Exynos processor in India.

The S8 and S8+ have 5.8 and 6.2 inch QHD AMOLED screens respectively. Samsung has dropped the home button and opted for a near bezel-less design on the front, giving the phones a striking look. The fingerprint scanner has been placed at the back, near the camera. Reviewers have complained that the scanner's positioning can make it hard to reach on occasion.

The phones have 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB internal storage capacity. Samsung has not upgraded the 12 MP rear camera's resolution but the phonemaker has said that the camera software has been improved. The 8 MP front camera sports a sensor with f/1.7 aperture.

The phones come with 3,000 mAh and 3,500 mAh batteries respectively, and both will be running Android Nougat 7.0 out of the box. Samsung has also introduced its own personal AI assistant, christened Bixby, with a special hardware button to invoke it on the phone's side. However, Bixby is only active in the US and Korea currently.

Last year, Samsung's flagship Galaxy S7 sold well in India. If the phonemaker is able to keep the starting price of the new phones at around ₹50,000, they should be many takers.
