Shiv Sena MP Ravindra Gaikwad, who was banned by Air India and several other private airlines after he attacked an Air India officer and assaulted him with his sandals, has finally been able to fly in an aeroplane.

Reports suggest that Gaikwad flew to Delhi from Pune in a chartered flight, and will attend Parliament almost after a fortnight.

The Indian Express reported that the flight took off from Pune at 3 pm and reached New Delhi at 5 pm on Wednesday.

Gaikwad, who has remained unapologetic after hitting the 60-year-old Air India officer 25 times with his shoes, has been unable to fly ever since the incident.

While he has tried every trick in the book to get tickets, he has remained unsuccessful. First IndiGo and Air India cancelled tickets that had been booked before the incident, after which he had to take a train from Delhi to Mumbai.

Unable to book new tickets after repeated cancellation by airlines, Gaikwad even tried to add prefixes to his name like 'professor' to circumvent the ban, but that did not help either. Then he had to take a car to Delhi.

This time, The Hindustan Times reports, the party leadership booked a chartered flight for him.

But Gaikwad says that it is not the most feasible option for him, because he was poor. News18 quoted him as saying, "I am a poor man and I can't afford to charter a flight."

The news channel also reported that Gaikwad may address the media on Thursday after attending Parliament.

The Shiv Sena has backed Gaikwad throughout, and had said they were mulling a breach of privilege motion against national carrier Air India.

On Wednesday, PTI reported that the Shiv Sena said they would protest against the flying ban on the MP in Parliament.
