Right-wing Hindu organisation Bajrang Dal on Wednesday forced the Campion School in Bhopal to shut and accused it of hurting sentiments of the Hindus by holding classes on Ram Navami.

India Today reports that the group raised Jai Shri Ram slogans inside the school campus. Frantic parents rushed to the school after the news spread.

Restrictions have been imposed on several states of northern India including Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh with a ban on the sale of meat and alcohol on the occasion of Ram Navami.

The India Today report suggests that while police were present, they stood as mute spectators and that the activists of the right-wing group left after the school administration tendered a written apology.

Reports suggest that the activists were angry that schools are usually shut on holidays like Christmas and Eid, and they felt that the parents were being harassed by the school because they were holding classes on Ram Navami.

Bajrang Dal's unit coordinator Lokesh Malviya told The Indian Express, "We learnt from parents that the school was open and...forced them to close. We took a written apology. How come they make no mistakes when it comes to holidays on Christmas and Eid?"

Bajrang Dal activists for their extremist Hindu ideology and have been involved in several incidents of vandalism and attacks including the one at the Campion School.
