Xiaomi Launches Redmi 4A At ₹5999, Opens Second Manufacturing Plant In India

The device is aiming to take a big a slice of the budget smartphone market.


Phonemaker Xiaomi has launched the Redmi 4A phone, strengthening their budget smartphone line up in India. Priced at ₹5,999 the phone is aimed at the entry-level user who is looking to buy a pocket-friendly smartphone. In Another big announcement, the company opened up their second manufacturing plant in India.

The Redmi 4A has a 5-inch 720p display powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 processor. It has a RAM capacity of 2 GB and 16 GB of internal memory that can be expanded to 128 GB through a microSD card. The phone is equipped with a 13 MP rear camera and a 5 MP front camera. It is being launched with Android Marshmallow 6.0 out of the box, with MIUI customization on top. The Redmi 4A has a sizable 3,120 mAh battery.

While Xiaomi's big bet for India, the flagship Redmi Note 4 has been on sale on Flipkart, the Chinese phone maker has tied up with Amazon to sell the Redmi 4A.

Also with the second production unit in Shree City the company claimed that it can produce a phone per second now. Manu Kumar Jain the head of Xiaomi India even claimed that the company is number 2 smartphone maker in the country with 10.6% of market share. Although, the IDC data of last year suggests that Lenovo has the second spot.

The phone will go toe to toe against Indian smartphone makers trying to launch devices priced at around ₹5,000. Last year, Xiaomi successfully launched the Redmi 3 and Redmi 3S under ₹10,000.
