NEW DELHI -- JNU Vice Chancellor M. Jagadesh Kumar on Tuesday expressed grief at the suicide of a varsity student and prayed to the Almighty to support the departed's family.

"JNU community is grief stricken at untimely and sad demise of Muthukrishnan J. We pray that God be with his family at this critical time," M. Jagadesh Kumar said in a tweet.

A M.Phil student of Jawaharlal Nehru University, Muthukrishnan, also known as Krish Rajini, was found hanging from the ceiling fan in his friend's room on 13 March.

He was reported to have gone to his friend's house in Munirka Vihar to have food. He had locked himself inside a room afterward on the pretext of sleeping.

The police had to break open the door to find Rajini hanging from the ceiling fan.

Though no suicide note was found on the deceased, a Facebook post, alleged to be written by him days before the incident, indicated a case of disaffection with the authorities and discrimination at their hands.

Police have begun investigating the case.
