Wishes poured in for the Bharatiya Janata Party for a massive mandate in Uttar Pradesh, even as Irom Sharmila, Manipur's Iron Lady, cut a lonely figure with only 90 votes polled for her. As contesting politicians who gave ground to their rivals went into a huddle to figure what went wrong, a lot of criticism poured in for BSP supremo Mayawati for alleging that the electronic voting machines were tampered with.
Here's what Twitter is discussing on counting day:
It's tragic that people didn't think Irom Sharmila is fit to be their representative.— रanviर_ डhoरeय_ (@RanvirShorey) March 11, 2017
The blaming of defeat on EVMs by @BspUp2017 Mayawati is so utterly ridiculous that words fail.— barkha dutt (@BDUTT) March 11, 2017

The Iron Lady of Manipur, Irom Sharmila gets only 85 votes in Manipur. That's electoral politics for you - ruthless and extremely pragmatic.— Junaid Azim Mattu (@Junaid_Mattu) March 11, 2017
At this rate we might as well forget 2019 & start planning/hoping for 2024.— Omar Abdullah (@abdullah_omar) March 11, 2017
If that happened, it's a good sign for a brave move against general political wisdom. One rare stand of Modi I support #UPElection2017— Bartman (@sandipshettyyer) March 11, 2017

Winning UP in this manner is Modi's biggest electoral achievement yet. This was much more of a challenge than even 2014 Lok Sabha elections— Ashok Malik (@MalikAshok) March 11, 2017
In a democracy, we must respect each other because some will win, some will lose. Trust the people 2/2— Mamata Banerjee (@MamataOfficial) March 11, 2017
Just another day in democracy.
